How to Create a Subdomain in cPanel
Log In to cPanel
-
Access your cPanel login page. This is typically found at http://yourdomain.com:2083 or through your Client Control Panel.
-
Enter your username and password, then click "Log in."
Navigate to the domains Section
-
Once logged in, locate the "Domains" section in the cPanel dashboard.
-
Click on "domains."
Add a New Subdomain
-
In the "Subdomains" page, you will see a form to create a new subdomain.
Fill in the Subdomain Details
-
Subdomain: Enter the desired subdomain name (e.g., blog if you want blog.yourdomain.com).
-
Domain: If you have multiple domains, select the desired domain from the dropdown menu.
-
Document Root: The document root will be filled in automatically based on the subdomain name, typically something like /public_html/blog. You can change this if you need the subdomain to point to a different directory.
Create the Subdomain
-
After filling in the required details, click the "Create" button.
-
The new subdomain will be created and listed under the "Modify a Subdomain" section.
Managing Your Subdomain
Upload Files to Your Subdomain
-
Use the cPanel File Manager or an FTP client to upload files to the document root directory specified for your subdomain.
-
The files you upload here will be accessible via your subdomain URL (e.g., http://blog.yourdomain.com).
Setting Up DNS Records (if necessary)
-
Once you have created your subdomain, it will also need to resolve to the server's IP address, just like your main domain. To achieve this, you will need to create an A record for your subdomain. Please log in to your dashboard at axxess.co.za. Once logged in, navigate to the domain in question, then click "view" and look for your DNS zone. Please note that, after this has been the record you have recently added needs to propagate which will take about 4 hours.
Testing Your Subdomain
-
Open your web browser and visit your new subdomain (e.g., http://blog.yourdomain.com) to ensure it is working correctly.
-
If you encounter any issues, verify the document root path and ensure the DNS settings are correctly configured.
